Around this time of year bae and I always try to plan a mini getaway before we get dragged into a million different directions for the holiday season. And while I've lived in Brooklyn for years, I still feel like there's so much more of NYC to uncover. I mean why pay to travel away from what is one of the hottest destinations in the US? On that note, I've been on the look out for unique homes to rest our heads at night while we explore the city by day. Check out some of the best of what Airbnb has to offer in NYC for you next visit (or if you're like me, staycation).
Save: $200 and under
Price per night: $105
Neighborhood: Bushwick, Brooklyn
Why I love it: When have you ever seen a basement apartment this lofty? I would live here full
time! This one bedroom apartment sleeps four and is only 2 blocks away from the J train. Well reviewed and spacious. this is a great option for the price.
Price per night: $120
Neighborhood: Rockaway Beach, Queens
Why I love it: Boats and hoes! So we're not about that yacht life yet but in the meantime we can definitely manage to stay on this super affordable house boat. The one bedroom sleeps four and has a great use of space; the interior looks far from cramped plus there's a well lit, expansive patio. The host lives in downtown Manhattan but promises to be easily accessible. Plus it's pet friendly.
Price per night: $175
Neighborhood: Park Slope, Brooklyn
Why I Love It: The biggest bang for your buck this far, this three bedroom sleeps five and is under $200 a night! And in super trendy Park Slope at that. The interior is just stunning with a chef's kitchen, huge bathroom with tub, separate dining room for family meals and more. Also loving the large patio that looks super private. Because nothing's worse than having a great outdoor space ruined by being way too close to your neighbors. It's also Kosher, which I can imagine isn't easy to find if that's a must for you.
Price per Night: $190
Neighborhood: Nolita, Manhattan
Why I Love It: At just under $200 a night, we finally made it into the borough of Manhattan. To be expected, the space is modest size-wise but well appointed. Gotta love that exposed brick. The furnishings and marble bath give you that boutique hotel feeling. There's a common rooftop deck and you can't beat the location. Oh to be walking distance from club instead of a one hour train ride!
Price per Night: $195
Neighborhood: Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Why I Love It: Unique properties like this are what makes Airbnb so special; you'll never find details like this in a hotel room. From the stainless steel shower to the kitchen fireplace to the antique looking ornate furniture, there are dozens of Instagram worthy backdrops through out the home. My favorite feature is the bonus room (calling it a sunroom would be an understatement) that has wall to wall windows and a garage door that opens up to a private patio. Outdoor space ftw.
Price per Night: $150
Neighborhood: Clinton Hill, Brooklyn
Why I Love It: I'm a sucker for an open concept living area and an upgraded kitchen so I couldn't leave this affordable Fort Greene gem out. Great views from the semi-private balcony (note the partition doesn't got all the way up). Modern bathroom with a soaker tub because when else would you have time for a bath but when on vacation?
Splurge: Over $200
Neighborhood: Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Price per Night: $235
Why I Love It: The design scheme is my personal aesthetic: not too modern, not too shabby chic with an eclectic mix of furnishings and accessories. The one bedroom sleeps four and is right by McCarren Park, a hipster's dream. The property also boasts over 100 positive reviews, so you know it's real.
Price per Night: $250
Neighborhood: West Village, Manhattan
Why I Love It: I've always thought, I'll know I've made it when my apartment has two floors. So this duplex is a glimpse into my future. It has all the makings of a classic downtown pad, exposed brick, a standing loft and an enviable zip code. Only if for a night, right?
Price per Night: $275
Neighborhood: East Village, Manhattan
Why I Love It: If you're looking for something with a lot of personal touches and an artsy feel without being over the top, this one's for you. With large scale artwork, hanging guitars and more you can feel like you're an aspiring artist but with none of the struggle. #winning It is only semi-private though, the host will be popping in and out as the first floor is her live/work space.
Price per Night: $325
Neighborhood: Chelsea, Manhattan
Why I Love It: The host boldly boasts this is the same apartment building Katie Holmes lives in so you'll be in good company. It's a doorman building is one of my top 5 neighborhoods; super accessible but not too touristy. And of course, you know I have a thing for stairs.
